The Design - Supersonic Flow CFX Simulation of a Space Shuttle | ANSYS CFX
Over the past twenty years, there has been a significant increase in the use of orbiter rocket engines in space shuttle industries. The efficiency of the fuel for the orbiter's three main rocket engines directly affects fuel consumption and dramatically reduces cost efficiency. The orbiter's three main rocket engines consist of several parts, including an air inlet, super-cold liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen in which a space shuttle of fuel takes place, an external tank for extraction of energy, and finally, a gas outlet. To increase the efficiency of rocket engines, we need to examine each component and part. A solid rocket buster and an external tank are some of the most important parts of a space shuttle. The flow inside a space shuttle also involves chemical reactions. Therefore, the design model of a space shuttle is very important. The computational fluid dynamics analysis of a space shuttle is absolutely essential and helps to better understand a space shuttle and flow patterns. The results of simulations will reduce the cost of construction, and by increasing performance, we can contribute to a healthier environment.
In this analysis, we tried to simulate and analyze supersonic flow CFX Simulation of a space shuttle Using ANSYS CFX software.
Geometry & Grid
The geometry required for this analysis was generated by Ansys Design Modeler software. The meshing required for this analysis was also generated by Ansys Meshing software. The mesh type used in this analysis is unstructured. The total number of volume properties for casing geometry is 2.5149e+010 mm³. The total number of volume properties for a space shuttle geometry is 3.061e+007 mm³.
Model
In this analysis, a steady-state analysis type was used to obtain the results to check the fluid flow. In this analysis, non-buoyant models have been used and stationary domain motion has also been activated in this analysis. In this analysis, an RNG k-Epsilon model was used to study the supersonic flow and thermal energy fluid models of a space shuttle.
Boundary Condition
The flow input for this geometry of a space shuttle directs the flow of air at a fluid temperature of 25 C into the geometry. The turbulence boundary condition of a space shuttle wall is considered to be RNG k-Epsilon according to the working conditions. Wall function is defined as Scalable in the name selection section of turbulence boundary condition. The static pressure for the design modeler is set as relative static pressure equal to 0 Pa. The turbulence for the design modeler is set with an intensity equal to 5 %.
